Timm van der Gugten wist al vroeg in de Essex innings toe te slaan en eindigde met de prachtige cijfers van 3-27 in 7 overs.  Met uitzondering van Westley wist geen van de Essex-batsmen de druk die NederlandTeam hen oplegde, te weerstaan. Essex in 33,3 overs voor 112 runs all out.

Michael Swart (40) , Tom Cooper (20) en Mudassar Bukhari (16) en Wesley Barresi 20* lieten er vervolgens geen gras over groeien. Voor het verlies van vijf wickets passeerde Nederland in de 23ste over het totaal van Essex en kon de vierde overwinning worden gevierd. Het wederom talrijke publiek genoot van het perfecte spel van het Nederlands elftal. Van der Gugten ontving na afloop de ABNAMRO most valuable player award uit handen van KNCB-voorzitter Jacques Mulders. Volgend weekend volgen de uitwedstrijden tegen Middlesex (zondag 3 juni op Lord's) en Leicester (maandag 4 juni op Grace Road).

Dutch stun Eagles to go top

After a thrilling one-wicket triumph over Lancashire on Monday, the Dutch secured their fourth win of the fledgling 40-over tournament as rain delays reduced play to 36 overs a side.

Timm van der Gugten set the tone for the hosts by dismissing Mark Pettini and Owais Shah in the opening three balls of the day and the visitors never really recovered. Alviro Petersen followed shortly afterwards as Van der Gugten claimed a third victim and it was only Tom Westley (32) and Graham Napier (27) who added some respectability to the Essex innings. However, Ahsan Malik removed both and Essex were eventually bowled out for just 112 with two overs of their allotted 36 still remaining.

Michael Swart then followed up his 41 runs against Lancashire yesterday with a solid 40 to put the hosts firmly on course for victory before finally being bowled by Tim Phillips. Tom Cooper (22) also fell to Phillips after opener Stephan Myburgh had been caught off the bowling of Napier in the second over. Mudassar Bukhari could not find the winning runs as he was dismissed with the scores level, but the win was soon confirmed as Napier delivered a wide with the second ball of the 23rd over to gift Holland victory with 83 balls remaining, to leave Essex still searching for a win in Group A.
