The Women's Senior XI completed a clean sweep of victories over English opposition as they swept aside Staffordshire, including England International Danielle Wyatt, to make it 7 wins out of 7.
Staffs batted first and were soon in trouble against the nagging Netherlands attack who once again produced an incisive fielding display supported by inventive and clever captaincy from Helmien Rambaldo. No Staffs player was able to make any inroads into the Dutch attack as the ground fielding and catching proved exemplary allowing the Dutch to bowl out Staffs for a paltry 100 off 36 overs. The bowling figures were as follows
Hartenhof 1-18 off 6
Brouwers 0-9 off 6
Tomlinson 3-25 off 7
Lanser 2-15 off 7
De Lange 2-15 off 7
Entrop - 2 -17 off 4
However the moment of the day was Entrops stunning catch at deep square leg which turned the game.
The chase began well with the Dutch reaching 10 for no wicket before Wattenburg was adjudged LBW but Veringmeier (34) and Tomlinson (41no) batted sensibly to see the Dutch to the edge of victory and to the top of the ECB County Championship table with 2 matches to play. Captain Helmien Rambaldo said " this has been a great weeks Cricket for the girls and puts in a good starting position for the forthcoming European Championships in Utrecht. We came back from Sri Lanka earlier this year having been given a hard lesson by one or two teams that arguably we should be beating. We now have the confidence back and its full steam ahead for the remaining programme of matches. I am immensely impressed with the teams ability to dig deep over the week and the fact that we have able to introduce A team players to the matches augurs well for the future."
Worcestershire won the toss and elected to field on a worn surface that took spin throughout the day. With excellent running between the wickets and a high boundary count Netherlands compiled 233-9 in 48 overs as 2 overs were lost to rain. Veringmeier 27 Rambaldo 55 Tomlinson 41 and Hannema 41no were the main run scorers as the experienced Handley finished with 3-40.
In reply Worcestershire got off to a blistering start as former Warwickshire player Naomi Heywood blasted 46 partnered by number 4 Thea Brooks who finished 74 not out. However Worcestershire lost wickets at regular intervals with the Dutch bowlers strangling the life out of the middle order batters. As the bowlers recovered their disciplines Lanser finished with 2-36, Brouwers 1-37,de Lange 1-37, Tomlinson 2-31 and Bennett 1-13. However it was the line and length containment of Hartenhof with 9 overs for 26 which turned the tide the way of the Netherlands to complete a 53 run victory as Worcs finished on 180-9.
The Womens team have now won 6 out of 6 on their UK trip with one game to go against Staffordshire who are one of the stronger sides in the group.
